How to use it

Biomimicry Changemakers Framework offers a modular approach to organizing biomimicry educational material, combining this content for different teaching purposes.

Here, you can find three types of entries to mix and match when preparing a teaching session. There are presentations, covering theoretical content needed to understand the subject; activity guides describing how to carry on hands-on exercises for a more energetic engagement; and case studies to provide a repository of interesting real-world applications. Lastly, we provide our templates to create your own content.

If you develop your own materials and want to contribute it through the platform, email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Creating your own teaching session

  1. Organize the content and objectives of the course. Who is the audience? What is their level of understanding?
  2. Use this itinerary for inspiration - a week of biomimicry education for designer students.
  3. Identify which content is already available on our webpage. Create the rest using the templates provided in this tab to keep on brand.
  4. See this example of a design workshop aimed to solve a specific environmental challenge related to fashion.

Presentations

Visual presentations to facilitate concept guidance through the learning session

Introduction to Biomimicry

Classroom 20-30 min

General introduction to biomimicry, showing how humans have always found inspiration in nature and examples of different products designed through this methodology.

Nature Unifying Patterns (NUP)

Classroom 20-30 min

Learn about the natural patterns ubiquitously present in our environment, which serve as the principles of regenerative design.

Biomimicry Design Method

Classroom 60 min

Create innovative solutions through the Biomimicry Design Spiral, a step by step guide.

Activity Guides

Description and materials needed to succesfully provide hands-on learning experiences

Create your own BioTable entry

Nature 60-90 min

Learn how to get in nature and identify organisms for creating your own biotable.

Scavenger Hunt

Nature 60-90 min

Get ready to see nature through different eyes, ideal activity to perform outdoors with a group or by yourself.

Pinecone workshop

Classroom 60 min

Test your hands on skills while learning through the physical properties of the pinecone.

Blindfold game

NatureClassroom 30-45 min

Activity to put our 5 senses into practice and learn about the different functions that an organic element fulfill.

Design Workshop

Classroom 8 hours

Face a biomimicry design challenge with a practical case.

Blindfold game V2

NatureClassroom 30-45 min

Activity to explore natural organisms through non-visual senses and connect their characteristics with potential biological functions.

Detailed Observation

NatureClassroom 25-30 min

Activity to practice detailed observation of nature’s forms and discover how their functions can inspire design solutions.

Photo-Biomimicry Walk

Nature 30-45 min

See the world through a new lens, not by looking harder, but by looking closer.

Case Studies

Luxbio

Developing light-based systems inspired by natural sunlight to support healing and well-being indoors.

Fusion Bionic

Creating laser-textured surfaces that mimic natural microstructures for self-cleaning and anti-bacterial effects.

MycoWorks

Producing durable, leather-like materials from mycelium, inspired by the strength of fungal networks.

Sharklet

Designing surfaces modeled after shark skin to reduce bacterial growth without using chemicals.

Soliome

Developing UV-protective materials inspired by nature’s light-filtering mechanisms.

Sparxell

Creating vibrant, biodegradable colors using plant-based materials, inspired by structural colors in nature.

Velcro
